Subject: give me Gibbon any day
Gibbon is notably, even to his 1834 publisher who was a big fan, problematic and rhetorical. But give me THAT reading any day, over this one, in which the reader seems to be going syllable by syllable with hardly any expression except to hit stressed syllables correctly. In addition to pronouncing "ch" sometimes correctly, sometimes as in English or Spanish.
